What to do when a Web Scraper API request is blocked

Written by Justin

A ‘422 blocked’ error means the target website’s bot-detection system stopped your request. IPRoyal handles bot-detection challenges for you, but some websites can still block a request. Blocked requests don’t use credits, so you can try again at no cost.

How to fix it:

  • Wait before retrying, because retrying right away usually doesn’t work. Give the website some time, then send the request again.

  • Try a different location. Set a different ‘geo_location’ value in your request, especially if the website limits traffic by region.

  • Confirm that the page is public. Open the URL in a private browser window. If it asks you to log in, Web Scraper API can’t access it, since it works with public web data only.

If requests to the same target still fail after a few attempts, contact IPRoyal Support. Make sure you include the target and the request time from the ‘Recent Requests’ section in your Web Scraper API dashboard, so our team can examine your requests.
