Why am I seeing websites that I haven't visited on my data usage report?

Some of our clients raised concerns about seeing sites they did not visit in our data usage reports. The explanation for this is simple. When accessing a website using a proxy, you load the website and all its external components. These include scripts, widgets, and more.

For example, let's say you access the IPRoyal website through our browser extensions. Your browser also loads the Zendesk live chat widget and Google Tag Manager that is used by your targeted website. Both of these will appear as separate items in your data usage report.

You can also take advantage of the Allowances feature in the residential dashboard. You have two options here:

  • Prevent access to specific domains in the Restrictions section

  • Whitelist domains in the Permissions section

This way, you have full control over what your proxies can access, which improves performance and optimizes bandwidth usage by blocking ads and other unnecessary content. This feature is only available to clients who have API enabled. To activate it, please contact our support team.

In terms of compromised credentials, each proxy has its custom details and a password that only the client knows. If you never share your password with anyone, it's not possible for anyone else to access your account. However, if you're worried about your data being compromised, you can turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) in your account settings.
