How to use Shared Datacenter proxies?

Updated over a month ago

This guide shows how to purchase and set up IPRoyal Shared Datacenter Proxies. They provide the same IP quality as our Dedicated Datacenter Proxies at significantly reduced pricing, making them ideal for QA testing, development, staging, or any other budget-conscious projects.

IPRoyal Shared Datacenter Proxies use reliable, high-performance IPs that are shared by multiple users - up to three simultaneously. They are a cost-efficient solution for operations that don’t require exclusive IP control. With HTTP/HTTPS and SOCKS5 support, precise geo-targeting options, and flexible authentication, they can be easily integrated into various tools and workflows.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to:

  • Purchase and access Shared Datacenter Proxies

  • Configure settings in the IPRoyal dashboard

  • Use proxy credentials

  • Change proxy credentials

  • Manage your Shared Datacenter Proxies orders

How to Configure IPRoyal Shared Datacenter Proxies

Once your order is confirmed, go to your dashboard and click on your order.

This will take you to the ‘Proxy Details’ section.

From the dashboard, you can manage credentials, protocols, authentication, and other proxy settings. We’ll cover the most important ones below.

  1. Select the Proxy Protocol and Port

Choose your preferred protocol, HTTP|HTTPS or SOCKS5 in the ‘Protocol’ (1) section. By default, HTTP|HTTPS uses port 12323 and SOCKS5 uses port 12324. You can change the port number in the Port (2) section, and the Formatted Proxy List will update automatically.

  2. Select the Credentials Format

To ensure seamless integration with your tools, select your preferred credentials format (3). The Formatted Proxy List will update automatically based on your selection.

How to Use the Formatted Proxy List

After configuring your proxies, you can start integrating them into your software, browser extensions, automation tools, custom scripts, and more.

To get started, click the ‘Copy list’ (1) button to copy your proxy credentials to the clipboard.

Then, click the ‘Test now’ (2) button to access the IPRoyal Proxy Tester. It’s a free tool that lets you verify your proxy configuration, connectivity, and speed before integrating it into your workflow.

Choose the protocol (3) and format (4) that match your Formatted Proxy List. Paste your proxy list or sessions in the input field (5) and click the ‘Begin test’ (6) button.

You’ll instantly see the test results for each proxy IP.

For more information about making requests, see our Proxy String Documentation.

How to Manage IPRoyal Shared Datacenter Proxies Authentication

Shared Datacenter Proxies support username/password authentication. You can modify your proxy credentials in the dashboard at any time. IP whitelisting isn’t supported for shared proxies, but it’s available for Dedicated Datacenter Proxies.

Username/Password Authentication

Each IPRoyal shared datacenter proxy comes with a username and password, which can be modified for easier management.

  1. Navigate to the ‘Change Proxies Credentials’ section. In the ‘Proxy IP’ (1) field, select the IPs whose credentials you want to change, or click ‘Select all’ (2) to apply changes to all IPs in your list.

  2. Enter the new username in the ‘Username’ (3) field and the new password in the ‘Password’ (4) field. You can also tick the ‘Random password’ (5) box to generate one automatically.

  3. Click the ‘Change credentials’ (6) button to save the changes, or reset your credentials for selected IPs using the ‘Reset credentials’ (7) button. Keep in mind that you can only update or reset your proxy username and password once per hour.

How to Manage IPRoyal Shared Datacenter Proxies Orders

All Shared Datacenter Proxies are available via a subscription, with no minimum purchase required. You can start with a single proxy and easily scale to larger volumes as your needs grow.

Pricing is calculated per IP and per selected plan duration. The more IPs you order and the longer the plan duration, the greater the discount applied.

To cancel, modify your subscription, or change your payment method, navigate to the ‘Order details’ tab in your dashboard.

You can also manually extend your order by clicking the ‘Extend’ option in the ‘Datacenter Orders’ section.

For more information, see our Extending an Order documentation.

Please note that Shared Datacenter Proxies are governed by our Fair Usage Policy. Dedicated Datacenter Proxies remain operational at reduced speeds beyond 100 GB per IP, whereas Shared Datacenter Proxies are temporarily suspended once this threshold is reached. For more information, refer to our Fair Usage Policy article.
